I am a partner for Beaver Brothers Trading Company on Prince Of Wales Island, AK along with Quinn Aboudara. He is our resident blacksmith and I am our resident tanner. I got into trapping for food and furs due to high food costs and low quality of meats. I have been struggling with fleshing and tanning beaver pelts so they can be sewn by hand or by machine. My issue is they are either paper thin or too thick! I have tried breaking them in and experimenting with different thickness and continue to struggle to get them to a point where a sewist can create a viable and long lasting product. I currently do not have a tumbler and probably won’t have one for some time and would love any tips or suggestions!
